MG Burton

The Adjutant General, Utah National Guard

Major General Jeff Burton is the Adjutant General and Commander of the 7,300 Soldiers and Airmen of the Utah National Guard. He is responsible for their readiness, training and response to homeland defense, homeland security and overseas contingency operations. He has served for more than 30 years as both a Regular Army and Army National Guard Officer. His specialties include positions in both the Army’s Military Police, and Engineer Corps. He Commanded a Sapper (Engineer) Battalion in Iraq performing Counter Improvised Explosive Device Route Clearance, Force Protection and Security missions from 2003-2004. He entered uniformed service in 1982 and received his commission from Brigham Young University’s Reserve Officer Training Corps as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1984. His assignments have included tours at the United States Army Military Police School’s Directorate of Combat Developments at VII United States Corps Headquarters in Stuttgart, Federal Republic of Germany, where he witnessed the dismantling of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and at the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as the Military Police Operations Officer. He possesses a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the State of New York at Albany, a Master of Arts from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Arts from the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Charn of Payson are the parents of two children Judson (Angela) Burton of Spanish Fork, and Lauren (Josh) Grewell of Springville.
